What is a Certificate of Recognition?
Non-apprenticeship career pathways (such as full time Institutional Courses in hairdressing and barbering) have a different pathway to those in an apprenticeship. Once Institutional students in hairdressing or barber complete their full time Institutional course, they become graduates. Having gained their Cert III in Hairdressing or Barbering, the Award specifies a graduate must then work to gain “industry experience” before they can be “recognised” as being qualified, skilled and experienced. This recognition occurs when they receive their Certificate of Recognition that has been recommended by the industry peak body (SAHBA) and endorsed by the Government regulatory body which in SA is Traineeship and Apprenticeship Services (TAS) and the Office of Training & Skills Commission of South Australia (T&SC). The process by which the graduate can apply for their Certificate of Recognition is the STAR Panel process.
