For a full-time Institutional Student, achieving your Cert III qualification is the first step in becoming validated as not only being qualified, but also skilled as a hairdresser or barber.
To explain … after completing your Cert III Course, you will become a graduate. This allows you to work as a hairdresser or barber, although you are only entitled to be paid at a graduate level of pay (which is less than a fully qualified Level 3 skilled hairdresser or barber as specified in the Award). The final step in your journey to be recognised (and be paid) as a fully qualified and skilled hairdresser is after you have your Cert III AND after you have completed a year of full-time work in industry). At that time, you can apply to the STAR Panel for your Certificate of Recognition which if successful you will receive a recommendation by SAHBA to Traineeship and Apprenticeship Services (TAS) and the Office of Training & Skills Commission of South Australia (T&SC) that you be awarded a Certificate of Recognition. This Certificate of Recognition fully endorses you as a fully qualified and skilled hairdresser or barber in SA and it will also allow you to apply for addition onto the SA Qualified Hairdressers Register.
